My parents gave me the BEST early graduation present: a Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM zoom lens!! And where better to try out my new glass than at Wolfgang’s favorite place?
Ladies and gents, welcome to…………… the dog park!
The star of the evening (and of my life):
A Schnauzer with a very non-Schauzeresque cut. I’m doing this to WG in Boston!
White dogs = MUCH easier to focus on than black dogs. Mental note: taken.
WG thinks he can play with the big boys… Pathetic.
This black lab looks like Choco, my first dog and best friend. (Sorry, Ita. You and your cupcakes didn’t come into my life until second grade.) A post about him will eventually make it on here. I still keep his tattered red collar. I’ll write about you eventually too, ITA.
My favorite! This is the shot I came to the dog park for, and got it! I will go back and re-shoot it in better sunlight, and try to get an even sharper image.
DID YOU HAVE FUN, WOLFGANG?!!! COCHINO…
I have a lot to learn, but am happy with my progress so far. Not bad for the new lens’ first time out to play.
Do you like these? Hate these? If you have constructive criticism, please comment on my photo posts!
‘Till next time!

Gracias!!
You don’t necessarily need filters when it’s a bit cloudy. You do generally need to do one of two things:
1) shoot in RAW and process your photos in Lightroom, Camera RAW or Aperture. Then you can overexpose the photo slightly and re-create daytime, and adjust the white balance.
2) you can adjust the exposure compensation in the camera anywhere from +.3 to +1.3. This will overexpose the picture at what the camera’s light meter thinks of as “average,” and allow for a brighter overall image. Keep in mind, this will also slow down the shutter speed a bit, so you may need to adjust the ISO.
VJs, thank you and thank you! I DO need to get Lightroom, and I DO need to start shooting in RAW… but then again, I need to learn what to do with RAW files and how to use Lightroom in the first place. Hm. I do know about exposure compensation and adjusting the white balance (learned that from yours truly several years back)… I tweaked them a bit but still think post-processing would be give me the best results because a lot goes wrong that I don’t notice until I get home and see the photos on my computer! Grr. Someday I’ll buy myself an ‘i shoot raw’ t-shirt, and not feel like a fraud. Thanks for the tips!
